Trio record firsts for Lady Lions

Box Score

SALEM, W. Va. —
Consider it a day of firsts.

Two first-time goal scorers delivered Lincoln University's new women's coach his first-career win Thursday afternoon in a 4-1 thumping of Salem International University.

Sophomore striker Shira Miller (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt) and midfielder Mariah Coates (Reading, Pa./Reading High School) registered their first goals and delivered Fabio Boateng his first victory as a collegiate head coach.

“You can't ask for anything more,” said Boateng. “They showed how far they've come. Hopefully we can sustain this momentum for the last couple of games.”

The output (four goals) doubled the total the Lady Lions scored in the first nine games (two).

Miller, who opened Lincoln's offensive awakening, also scored the team's third goal while Coates secured the win with the final tally. Charlise Cunningham (Long Island, NY, Bayshore) netted Lincoln's second strike for her first of 2010 and fourth of her career.
