Smallwood increases role in loss

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. — Freshman Danielle Smallwood (Philadelphia, Pa./West Catholic) had a career-high 22 points as the Lincoln University women's basketball team fell to Elizabeth City State, 71-53, at the Vaughan Center.

 

Smallwood was 8 of 15 from the field and 3 of 6 from 3-point arc as the young wing enjoyed one of the best nights of her career.

 

Lincoln was without one of its top scorers and leading rebounders DeJuana Mosley (Chester, Pa./Chester), missing action Wednesday night. In her absence, Smallwood and Mfon Ekanem (Springdale, Md./Charles H. Flowers) pulled down a team-best 4 rebounds.

 

Lincoln trailed at halftime, 42-28, as the Lady Vikings shot 48 percent from the floor to just 32 percent for the Lady Lions.

 

Sharay DuBose (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) continued her stellar sophomore effort with 16 points.

 

ECSU was led by Kenyatta Gill with 16 points. She also had seven rebounds.

 

With the loss, Lincoln falls to 2-13 while Elizabeth City State improves to 10-5.

 

The LU women return home Saturday to face Shaw University. Tip-off is at 5:30 p.m. and will be broadcast live on BrandywineRadio.com.
