Harwell and Stewart lead Lincoln in opening match

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA. (April 15, 2009) – The Lincoln University of Pennsylvania women's team finally had an opportunity to play a match, dropping a 6-3 decision to Trinity (D.C.) College Monday afternoon at home.

The Lady Lions have had six matches postponed this spring because of weather including today's scheduled match at Chestnut Hill College.

However, the Lady Lions did savor the opportunity to compete as junior Tiffany Stewart (Queens, NY/William Allen) posted a pair of victories, defeating Aime Bien, 8-6 at No. 1 singles and teaming with Ellen Brown to win at No. 2 doubles. Also winning for Lincoln was senior Sherell Harwell, who prevailed at No. 2 singles by knocking off Paola Flores in a riveting, 9-8 match that required a 7-2 tiebreak victory.

Harwell and Renee King (Washington, D.C./C. Coolidge H.S.) played a spirited doubles match before dropping an 8-5 decision.
