Lincoln loses season finale at Johnson C. Smith despite quick start

CHARLOTTE, NC (February 21, 2009) -- The Lincoln University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team started the game by making seven of its first 10 3-point shot attempts, but it was not enough as Johnson C. Smith overcame an early deficit to defeat the Lady Lions, 101-58 Saturday afternoon at Brayboy Gym. (BOXSCORE)

Lincoln senior Tanina Cook (Landover, MD/Charles H. Flowers), playing her final game, finished with a team-high 16 points and 10 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season and her 14th of her career. Cook finished her sterling career with 816 points and 652 rebounds. 

Sharay DuBose (Salisbury, Md./Parkside HS) added 14 points and Britny Adams (Bloomingdale, MI/Bloomingdale) tied her career high by scoring 12 points. Also playing her final career contest, senior Angelle Green (Yeadon, PA/Penn Wood) scored nine points. Chanelle Harris (Philadelphia, PA/Penn Wood) handed out four assists to finish the season with 103, the third straight year she has finished with over 100 assists.

Adams sparked the Lady Lions in the first half by draining three 3-pointers. Cook swished two. Green and DuBose knocked down one each. By the time Lincoln finished its 3-point shooting barrage, the Lady Lions held a 27-21 lead with eight minutes, 42 seconds remai atning in the first half. However, JCSU rallied behind the performance of junior Wendy Stywalt, who scored 21 of her game-high 25 points to help the Lady Golden Bulls to a 44-32 halftime lead.

Johnson C. Smith opens the CIAA tournament Wednesday against Shaw at the Time Warner Arena in Charlotte at a time to be announced. A 2008-09 Lincoln season recap will be available early next week on the LU Athletics website.
