Cook's double-double can't lift Lincoln past Bowie State

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA. (February 12, 2009) – Tanina Cook (Landover, MD/Charles H. Flowers) collected her 13th career double-double with 10 points and a game-high 14 rebounds, but it wasn't enough as the Lincoln University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team dropped a 69-52 decision to visiting Bowie State Thursday evening at Manuel Rivero Hall.(BOXSCORE)

 

Angelle Green (Yeadon, PA/Penn Wood) led Lincoln in scoring with 14 points. She made four 3-pointers as Lincoln made eight for the game. Freshman Sharay DuBose (Salisbury, Md./Parkside HS) and Britny Adams (Bloomingdale, MI/Bloomingdale) finished with six points each for the Lady Lions. DuBose did snatch 10 rebounds. It's the third time this season DuBose, who was named Heritage Sports Radio Network (HSRN) National Division II Women's Basketball Player of the Week, grabbed 10 or more rebounds.

 

Noel Webster (Hagerstown, MD/Elkton) grabbed six rebounds and Sasha Evans (Hampton, VA/Phoebus) handed out four assists and made three steals for Lincoln.

Bowie State was led guard Bianca Lee, who scored a team-high 14 points. Brittney Jackson and Lakisha Walker scored 11 points each for the Lady Bulldogs, who ran their winning streak to seven. Walker also pulled down 11 rebounds. Bowie State finished with 18 assists on 24 baskets.

 

The Lady Lions battled despite shooting 30.2 percent (19-for-63). The hustle and hard work of Cook paid off when she followed a missed shot and hit the ensuing foul shot to bring Lincoln to within, 46-38, with 12 minutes, 31 seconds remaining.

 

Lincoln's only lead was 2-0 following a pair of Green foul shots. Lee answered with a 3-pointer to give Bowie the lead for good, 3-2.

 

Lincoln visits Virginia Union Saturday night in a game beginning at 7:30 p.m. Bowie State hosts Saint Paul's College at 2:00 p.m.
