Box Score

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. — The Lincoln University women's basketball team prevailed in a back-and forth game and overcame a six-point deficit late to come away with a 55-52 win Monday night at Manuel Rivero Hall.

Sophomore guard Sharay Dubose (Salisbury, MD, Parkside) penetrated on an in-bounds pass. The ball bounced around the iron and dropped for a 54-52 lead with one minute left.

Kayler McBride missed a three with 24 seconds left and was forced to foul, her fifth, putting Sasha Evans (Hampton, VA/Phoebus) (Hampton, Va, Phoebus) on the line. She made one of two, and desperation shots for the Lady Blue Bears fell short for a 55-52 LU victory.

The win is the Lincoln's second. At 2-5, last year's total has already been matched.

Dubose was one of two Lincoln University players to record a double-double. She had 20 points and 10 boards while DeJuana Mosley (Chester, PA/Chester) (Chestery, PA, Chester) had 10 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Brittney Waters (Capitol Heights, Md./Charles H. Flowers) (Capitol Heights, MD, Charles H. Flowers) had a career-high seven points.

Lincoln started tremendously well as Dubose gave Lincoln a 14-5 lead following two made free throws with 14:50 left in the opening period.

Kelcyn Manurs converted a lay-up and made the free throw to cut the deficit to 16-11 at eight minutes in, but Dubose responded with an expiring shot clock for an 18-11 margin.

Mosley stifled the run with a basket following an offensive board off of a Charity Hart (Richmond, VA/Highland Springs) (Richmond, VA, Highland Spring) miss with 9:35 to go for a 22-15 margin.

Once again, Dubose hit a much-needed three when Livingstone clawed within one for a 27-23 advantage with 5:30 to go in the opening period.

Endia Hill took a nice feed from Manurs underneath to knot the game up with more than a minute left.  The Lady Blue Bears took the lead with two seconds left when Rashida Elbourne knocked down both free throws for a 30-28 advantage.

LU foul trouble allowed LC to reawaken, going 14 of 18 from the charity stripe, with that success accounting for nearly half their point total.

At 15:10, Chanelle Harris (Philadelphia, PA/Penn Wood) (Philadelphia, PA, Penn Wood) came up with a steal and easy transition layup for a 34-33 Livingstone lead.

Waters found Danielle Smallwood (Philadelphia, PA/West Catholic) (Philadelphia, PA, West Catholic) underneath as Lincoln retook the lead, 35-34.

Maturing seemingly every possession down the court Waters also had a three pointer, a steal and drew a foul while driving in transition. On that ensuing possession, Tequila Jimenez (South Jersey, N.J./Cumberland Regional HS) (South Jersey, NJ Cumberland Regional) got a bucket and a foul shot to extend Lincoln's lead to 42-37 with three to go.

That would be Lincoln's largest lead of the half. LC quickly erased it with a 12-1 run, for its largest lead of the game at 49-43 with 5:50 to go.

Dubose and Alease Tabb (Brooklyn, NY/Middle College High School) (Brooklyn, NY, Middle College) scored on consecutive possessions to put LU within one score as Mosley converted both free throws for a 49-49 game.

Tied at 52, on a hustle play, Waters scrambled for the offensive board. Not able to come down with it, she knocked the ball off an LC player. Dubose penetrated on an in-bounds pass. The ball bounced around the iron and roped for a 54-52 lead with one minute left.

McBride missed a three with 24 seconds left and was forced to foul, her fifth, putting Sasha Evans (Hampton, VA/Phoebus) on the line. She made one of two, and desperation shots for the Lady Blue Bears fell short for a 55-52 lead.
