FAYETTEVILLE, NC — Danielle Smallwood (Philadelphia, PA, West Catholic) recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds in a losing effort Saturday as the Lincoln University women's basketball team dropped its CIAA opener to Fayetteville State, 86-56.
With the defeat, Lincoln drops to 1-2 on the young season and 0-1 in conference play.
Lincoln held an 8-5 lead 3:13 into the game when Tequila Jimenez (South Jersey, NJ, Cumberland Regional) converted a lay-up opportunity.
From that point, though FSU dictated the rest of the half and jumped to a 38-23 advantage at the intermission. Junior guard DeJuana Mosley (Chester, PA, Chester) had 14 of her team-high 18 points in the first stanza.
Smallwood responded from a scoreless opening half by having all 10 of her points over the final 20 minutes. Seven of her 10 boards came in the second half as well.
Joining Mosley and Smallwood in double digits was Sharay DuBose (Salisbury, MD, Parkside) with 11 points. Mosley, Smallwood, Sasha Evans (Hampton, VA, Phoebus) and Chanelle Harris (Philadelphia, PA, Penn Wood) each had two assists.
Monday, Lincoln has the opportunity to snap the two-game skid with a game against Chowan University in Murfresboro, N.C. Tip is at 7:30.
