Take that! LU serve overwhelms Virginia Union

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa.Behind 26 service aces, the Lincoln University volleyball team defeated Virginia Union, 25-15, 25-10, 17-25, 25-18 Thursday night at Manuel Rivero Hall.

The Lady Lions were happy to be at home for the first time since Sept  22 and got off to a great start. After convincingly taking the opening game, Erika Bell (Owings Mills, MD, Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) recorded seven consecutive aces to start the second, and Lincoln cruised to the CIAA victory, improving to 8-18 in 2009.

Bell's seven aces led Lincoln, but Sharay Dubose recorded six of her own. Nekia Morris (San Bernadino, CA, San Gorgonio) and Noel Webster (Hagerston, MD, Elkton) each had five. The Lady Panthers had just five service aces, all by Jessica Thompson.

After Lincoln dropped the third game, Noel Webster (Hagerston, MD/Elkton) and Nekia Morris (San Bernadino, CA/San Gorgonio) assumed control, seemingly angered by the elongated match. Webster had a match-high 12 kills while Morris had 10.Lia Hubbard (Farrell, PA, Farrell )had 19 assists.

The Lady Lions have a quick turnaround with a 10 a.m. match Saturday at home against Virginia State.
