Columbia Union defeats Lincoln in women's soccer

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA (September 21, 2008) – Columbia Union College scored two goals in the second half to defeat host Lincoln University of Pennsylvania, 2-0 in a women's soccer match Sunday afternoon. (BOXSCORE)

 

The Pioneers (3-6 overall) won their third consecutive match by getting goals from Lorrie Meade and Tania Arevalo. Meade scored her goal in the 63rd minute. Arevalo added an insurance goal in the 86th minute. It was Columbia Union's second straight victory at Lincoln (3-4).

 

Lincoln saw its two game-winning streak end despite 10 shots. Tia Redden (New Castle, DE/St. Elizabeth's) led the Lady Lions with a team-high four shots. Brittany Johnson (Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) and Shaynita Blanchard (Portmore, Jamaica/Archbishop Carroll) had two shots each. Lincoln keeper Tanina Cook (Landover, MD/Charles H. Flowers)  finished with five saves. 

After outshooting Columbia Union, 7-2. in the first half, the Pioneers turned the tables in the second half. Columbia Union generated nine of the 12 combined shots in the second half. The Lady Lion defense played valiantly.

 

Columbia Union keeper April Ridenour finished with five saves to the record the shutout. Lincoln and Columbia Union will meet again on Tuesday October 7 in Takoma Park (Md.). The Lady Lions won a 2-1 overtime thriller last season at CUC.

 

Lincoln returns to action Wednesday afternoon when it travels to Philadelphia University for a 4:30 p.m. kickoff.
