PHILADELPHIA, PA (December 13, 2008) – The Lincoln University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team dropped a 62-56 decision to Cheyney University in the 18th Annual Holiday Basketball Classic at Temple University's McGonigle Hall Saturday night. (BOXSCORE)
Lincoln sophomore guard DeJuana Mosley led three Lady Lions in double digit scoring with 20 points. Freshman Sharay Dubose added 15 points while senior Angelle Green (Yeadon, PA/Penn Wood) picked up 14 points. Green made her way around the court grabbing six rebounds and five steals for the Lady Lions.
The Lady Lions scored the first two points of the game on a Mosley layup in with 19 minutes and 56 seconds to go in the first half. The Lady Lions held the Wolves scoreless until Cheyney's Desiree Asberry scored a layup with 17 minutes and 35 seconds in remaining.
The Wolves were led by Angel Stephens with 11 points and eight rebounds. Other significant players for the Wolves were Lutfiyya Muhammad (8 points), Gaelen Quinton (8 points) and Shanira Blake (8 points). Cheyney's Stephanie Orji was a force defensively grabbing a game high 12 rebounds. All three players who scored eight points also grabbed two steals each.
The Lady Lions overcame a 46-35 deficit early in the second half to bring the score within two points, 58-56 with two minutes and 22 seconds remaining. Cheyney scored the next four points of the game off a Stephen's layup and a pair of free throws from Quinton.
Another key player for the Lady Lions was Alease Tabb with six points and five rebounds. The Lady Lions had five players with at least five rebounds including Tabb, Tanina Cook (Landover, MD/Charles H. Flowers) (6), Mosley (5) Dubose (5) and Green. The Lady Lions also had four players with two or more steals. Cheyney outscored Lincoln's bench, 34-15.
The Lady Lions and Cheyney Wolves return to action January 3, 2008. The Lady Lions are on the road against Fayetteville (N.C.) State University at 5:30, while the Wolves host Slippery Rock at 1 p.m.
