Virginia Union rally stuns Lincoln

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA. (November 20, 2008) – The Lincoln University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team dropped a 72-64 decision to visiting Virginia Union Thursday night at Manuel Rivero Hall. (BOXSCORE)

 

Lincoln (1-3) got a team-high 18 points from DeJuana Mosley and 15 points from Sharay DuBose. Mosley also finished with nine rebounds. Making her first career start, sophomore Sasha Evans (Hampton, VA/Phoebus) tied her career high with eight points. Senior Tanina Cook (Landover, MD/Charles H. Flowers) finished with seven points and 11 rebounds for the Lady Lions.

 

Virginia Union (2-1) won its second consecutive contest by getting 19 points and eight rebounds from Tonaye Smith. Also reaching double figures for the Lady Panthers were Samantha Traynham (13 points), Dashia Chandler (12 points) and Ashley Hill (11 points).

 

Lincoln made 12-of-24 shots in the opening 20 minutes to take a 43-28 lead into halftime. Virginia Union turned the tables in the second 20 minutes by making 15-of-30 shots from the field and 12-of-18 from the foul line. DuBose scored 11 points in the first half. In adding in four steals and three steals, Evans played all 20 minutes in the first half.

 

For the fourth consecutive game, Lincoln won the battle of the benches, 27-15. The Lady Lions finished with 15 assists on 19 baskets. Lincoln made three consecutive 3-pointers (two by Mosley and one by DuBose) to open an early 11-4 advantage. Overall, Lincoln made six of its seven 3-pointers in the first half.

 

The Lady Lions return to action Saturday night when they travel to Elizabeth City State University for a 5:30 p.m. start.
