CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) in conjunction with the CIAA Men's Basketball Coaches Association and Sports Information Directors Association announced the Player, Rookie, and Coach of the Week on Tuesday afternoon. For the second time this season, Lincoln University Head Men's Basketball Coach
Doug Overton has earned CIAA Coach of the Week honors.
Overton's Lincoln squad went 2-1 in three road games last week, earning consecutive road victories at St. Augustine's University and Bowie State University. It marked the first time since the 2014-15 season that a Lincoln men's basketball team won two consecutive CIAA road games.
The Lions rallied from a double digit second half deficit to earn a 70-67 win at St. Augustine's last Wednesday and followed that with a thrilling 67-62 win at Bowie State on Saturday. The Bowie State game saw 13 lead changes and nine ties. The Lions pulled down 54 rebounds, the highest total in a single game by a Lincoln squad in the university's NCAA Division II era.
The Lions are currently 5-11 overall and 4-3 in CIAA games this season under Overton. He becomes just the second men's basketball coach in the school's Division II era to earn multiple CIAA coach of the Week honors in one season, joining former coach John Hill who was named CIAA Men's Basketball Coach of the Week four times during the 2012-13 season.
Lincoln returns to action on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 when they host Elizabeth City State University at Manuel Rivero Hall. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.
