Role of the FAR
As an NCAA-mandated role, the Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) is concerned with the academic integrity of the Athletics Program, which seeks to educate students in the virtues of sportsmanship, self-discipline, physical skill, teamwork, and spirit of competition in sports, together with academic achievement leading to the Bachelor's degree. The fundamental assumption is that finding a balance between athletic and academic performance serves the overall well being of student-athletes. Certification of student-athlete eligibility to compete is a highly important part of achieving this balance.
