Lions SAAC Particpates In Breast Cancer Walk

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa.- The Student Athlete Advisory Committee participated in The Lincoln University's annual Breast Cancer walk on October 1st, 2014.

Many people are affected by cancer in their own way. Two board members on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee were affected more than most and walked not only for the people who are currently dealing with some type of cancer, but also for those who have lost someone to cancer.

Carol Davis was a quiet but powerful woman who lost a long great fight to Breast Cancer. She found out she had cancer, she went through the chemotherapy, and soon things were beginning to look positive. Unfortunately, the cancer came back, she tried many ways to attack it, nutritionally, went to Chicago for treatments trying to find the best way she knew how to get healthy again.  The treatment wasn't working this time around. My loving cousin was a very influential, great spirited, and humble woman who did everything she could to help other people. Her passing owned in Philadelphia, PA. It was upsetting to hear of her passing because she opened up my eyes to not only the beauty of dance, but what it was to be an elegant, graceful, a strong woman. My family lost an amazing woman, who left behind a joy a great memories and even better times.

My mom battled stage 4 lung cancer for three years, and passed away last June. I walked today at the breast cancer walk supporting those who have lost someone to cancer or for someone who is battling cancer or for someone who has survived cancer. I believe it is important for not only our university, but also us as students and athletes to realize what others go through on a day-to-day basis. Dealing with cancer is never easy and never will be, but the support that we can provide, will make a difference. I am currently a junior at The Lincoln University, captain for the Lady Lions volleyball team, the Student Athlete Advisory Committee President, a Health Science Major, a student athletic trainer, and an assistant coach.
