Love Conquers the Jumps as Lions Place Second at Collegeville Classic

Aasante Love won both high jump and long jump competitions as the Lincoln University women's indoor track and field team finished in second place at Saturday's Collegeville Classic at the Floy Lewis Bakes Center on the campus of Ursinus College.
 
The Lions finished with 68 points, trailing only Haverford College who finished with 77. A total of 20 teams competed in the meet.  Lincoln recorded 12 top ten finishes and there were a total of 11 personal best marks set at the meet.
 
Love had two of the three first place finishes recorded by the Lions.  She opened her day by recording an indoor personal best in the high jump, clearing the bar at 1.50 meters (4'11").  Following her performance in the high jump, Love out-jumped the competition in the long jump event, again recording an indoor personal best with a leap of 5.20 meters (17'¾"). The junior track athlete finished her day running the second leg on the Lions' 4 x 400 meter relay team that finished third in the event.
 
Senior Adia Berkel (Wilmington, Del. /Brandywine) recorded the Lions other first place finish, recording a time of 1:02.28 in winning the 400-meter dash.  Berkel also competed in the 200 meter dash, winning her heat with a time of 27.28 seconds and finishing third overall in the race standings.  She finished her day running the leadoff leg on Lincoln's 4 x 400 meter relay team.   
 
In the triple jump competition, freshmen Krystahl Gordon (Fredriksted, V.I./Saint Croix Edu Complex) and Kayla Tisdale (Richmond, Va./Cosby) finished second and third respectively.  Gordon jumped 10.78 meters (35'4¼") while Tisdale jumped 10.40 meters (34' 1½") – both jumps were personal bests.  Gordon also recorded a personal-best mark in the long jump, placing third behind Love and Neumann University's Cheyenne Sovae-Beattie with a jump of 5.09 meters (16'8½"). 
 
Tisdale, meanwhile had a busy afternoon, competing in four additional events.  Entered in both the 60 yard dash and 60 yard hurdles; Tisdale placed fifth in the dash with a finals time of 8.28 seconds.  Her preliminaries time of 8.23 seconds was a personal best.  In the hurdles, Tisdale finished eighth with a time of 9.93 seconds.  Again, her preliminaries time of 9.73 seconds was a personal best.  Tisdale also made her collegiate debut in the 800-meter run and the shot put competition.
 
Lincoln's 4 x 400 meter relay team placed third with a time of 4:24.95.  Berkel ran the opening leg and handed off to Love.  Lacendria Pulley () and Paige Harris (Bowie, Md. / Laurel) ran the third and fourth legs respectively.
 
Pulley also placed tenth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.00 seconds.  Jerneice Morton (Jackson, N.J. /Jackson Memorial) rounded out the Lions' top ten finishers with a tenth place effort in the high jump, clearing the bar at 1.40 meters (4'7") a personal best mark.
 
The Lions return to action next week, competing at the John Covert Classic at Lehigh University on Saturday, January 27, 2018.
