Lincoln University women's basketball player
Teira Pendleton (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Poly Institute) has been named to the 2016-17 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women's Basketball Team. Pendleton is one of seven student-athletes selected to the 2016-17 Academic All-Area Women's Basketball Team. The team is voted on by the sports information offices of the 28 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
A junior majoring in biology at Lincoln, Pendleton has been named to the Lincoln Athletic Director's Honor Roll in each of her first two years at Lincoln and has earned Dean's List honors in every semester.
In the Lions' upset win over top seed Chowan in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Tournament quarterfinals, Pendleton scored 20 points, grabbed eight rebounds and had two key steals late in the game as Lincoln rallied from an eight point fourth quarter deficit for the win. Her efforts earned Pendleton the "Food Lion Player of the Game" honors. She added 16 points in Lincoln's semi-final loss to Virginia State and was named to the CIAA All-Tournament team at the conclusion of the championship.
Pendleton led the team in scoring during the 2016-17 season, averaging 11.6 points per game while playing in 25 of the team's 29 games. The junior forward also led the team in rebounding, averaging 5.2 rebounds per game and made a team-high 92 free throws during the season.
The Baltimore, Maryland native reached double figures in 19 of 25 games she played, including eight of her last nine. Pendleton scored a career-high 22 points in Lincoln's upset win over fifth-ranked Virginia Union University on February 11, 2017 at Lincoln. Union finished the season as the NCAA Division II runner-up.
In three seasons in a Lions uniform, Pendleton has scored 763 points, ranking seventh on Lincoln's all-time scoring list. Her 112 career assists rank tenth on the Lions all-time list while her 361 rebounds is 12
th all-time at Lincoln.
Joining Pendleton on the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women's Basketball Team are Sarah Abbonizio of University of the Sciences; Sierra Berkel of Haverford College; Meghan Creighton of Drexel University (Area Performer of the Year); AAliya Hayes of Neumann University; Caity Kuhnen of Chestnut Hill College; and Sydney Stipanovich of the University of Pennsylvania.
