The Lincoln's University women's basketball team's second half rally came up short as Elizabeth City State University pulled out a 66-60 win Wednesday evening at ECSU's Vaughn Center in Elizabeth City, North Carolina.

The Lions fall to 6-17 overall and 3-10 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association games. Â The Vikings improve to 5-15 overall and 3-9 in league play.

She'cquan Bailey (Denton, Md/Baltimore City CC) led Lincoln with 16 points while
Teira Pendleton (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore Polytech) added 15. Â
De'jah Taylor (Nanuet, NY/Paramus Catholic Regional) chipped in 13 points and led the team with seven rebounds.
The Vikings put four players in double figures, led by Jalyn Brown's 21 points. Jazmine Nixon added 14 points and nine rebounds. D'asya Wilson and Chalise Greenwood had 11 points apiece.
The Vikings never trailed in the contest, jumping out to an early 15-5 lead and pushing the margin to 14 midway through the second quarter, 34-20. The Lions scored the final five points of the second quarter to close the gap to nine 34-25 at halftime.
Bailey sank a three-pointer and Pendleton added a layup to open the third quarter, giving the Lions a 10-0 run and cutting the lead to four 34-30. After a basket by Nixon pushed the Viking lead back to six, a 10-5 flourish from Lincoln closed the gap to one at 41-40 with 1:51 left in the period. Taylor started the run with a pair of free throws and Pendleton then added a traditional three point play to make the score 37-35. Free throws from
Diamond Mickle (Philadelphia, Pa./Paul VI (Va.) (Harford C.C.)) and
Jaeda Davis (Milwaukee, Wis./ Rufus King HS) followed and Pendleton closed out the run with a layup.
Following Pendleton's basket, the Vikings went on an 14-2 run starting with a basket to close out the third quarter and scoring 12 of the first 14 points of the fourth quarter, taking a 57-44 lead with 5:21 left. The Lions followed with a 9-0 run to close the gap back to four at 57-53 with 1:57 left.  Layups from Davis started and finished the run. Wilson's basket pushed the Vikings lead back to six before a 7-3 run, capped by McKenzie spencer's three-pointer pulled Lincoln within two at 62-60 with ten seconds left. ECSU made four straight free throws in the final ten seconds to seal the victory.
The Lions return to action on Saturday, February 11, 2017 when they host first place Virginia Union University at Manuel Rivero Hall.  Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
