Six season best performances and three indoor personal records highlighted the Lincoln University women's indoor track and field team's performance at the DeSchriver Invitational held at East Stroudsburg University on Sunday.
The meet featured teams from 17 different schools with NCAA Division II, Division III and community colleges represented as well as three eastern area track clubs.
Adia Berkel (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine) recorded indoor personal records in both the 200-meter and 400-meter dash events as well as running the opening leg on Lincoln's 4 x 400-meter relay team. Berkel finished third in the 200-meter dash with an indoor personal best time of 26.89 seconds and was 11
th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.66. Her opening leg in the 4 x 400 was 1:02.73 setting the pace for the Lions season best time of 4:06.04 and a third place finish in the event.
Genae Butler (Baltimore, Md./Western HS),
Joelle Polk (Philadelphia, Pa./Overbook HS) and
Bianca Kennedy (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) ran the other three legs of the relay event.
The second leg of the 4 x 400 was run by Butler, who completed her two laps in 1:00.07. Butler also ran to a second place finish in the 800 meter run, recording a season best time of 2:29.98 and the opening leg of Lincoln's 4 x 200-meter relay team (28.39 sec.). In the 3,000-meter run,
Emani Parsons (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood HS) recorded a season best time of 13:30.33, placing eighth overall.
Lincoln's final personal best mark came in the field events as freshman
Deja Rowe (Hyattsville, Md./Duval HS) cleared 1.40 meters (4'7") in the high jump, placing eighth overall. Rowe was the busiest of the Lincoln athletes, competing in five events in preparation for the pentathlon competition at the upcoming Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Indoor Championships. Rowe finished fifth in the long jump competition with a mark of 4.78 meters (15' 8 ¼") while also running in the 800-meter and 55-meter hurdle events. Rowe also ran the second leg on Lincoln's 4 x 200-meter relay team that placed ninth overall.
Tema Kidd (Philadelphia, Pa./Germantown) and Kennedy ran the last two legs of the relay.
In addition to the personal and season best performances turned in by the Lions squad, the team also recorded four additional top ten finishes in individual events. Three of those four came in the field events with two of those turned in by
Tamara Jones (Chicago, Ill./Brooks College Prep). Jones placed fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 10.27 meters (33' 8½") and finished ninth in the long jump with a mark of 4.64 meters (15' 2¾").
Sydney Anderson (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) was ninth in the high jump, clearing the bar at 1.35 meters (4'5") and
Arianna Polk (Philadelphia, Pa./Central HS) placed ninth in the one-mile run with a time of 5:54.98
Next up for the Lions track team is the CIAA Indoor Track Championships on February 12-13, 2017 at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia.
