Four Players Score Double Figures as Lions Cruise to Win over Livingstone

Box Score The Lincoln University women's basketball team placed four players on double figures as they cruised to their second straight win 68-51 over Livingstone College Monday evening in Salisbury, North Carolina.
The Lions improve to 7-4 overall and 2-1 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association games.   The Blue Bears fall to 6-5 overall and 0-2 in league play.

Michelle Fitzgerald (Baltimore, Md./Md. Academy of Tech & Health Science (N.C. A & T)) led the Lions with 13 points (4-5 FG, 4-6 FT) and seven rebounds. Shahra Madison (Chesapeke, Va./Norfolk Collegiate School (Chesapeke College)) added 11 points and seven boards and DeeDee Irwin (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area) chipped in 11 points.  Teira Pendleton (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore Polytech) rounded out the Lions double figure scorers with 10 points and seven rebounds.  Brianna Logan (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley (Siena)) led the team with four assists while McKenzie Spencer (Richmond, Va./Henrico) had four steals.

Asia Green and Kyala Searcy led the Blue Bears with 12 points apiece.

The Lions led this contest wire-to-wire, scoring the first six points and added a 10-0 flourish over the final 2:45 of the quarter to take a 24-6 lead.  Lincoln's defense limited the Blue Bears to just two field goals (2-15, 13.3%) while making 50% (9-18) of their own shots in the first ten minutes of action.

Lincoln extended their lead to 28 points midway through the second quarter with a 14-4 uprising.Irwin's 3-ball started the onslaught at the 8:29 mark and Madison completed the run with a layup at the 5:04 mark.  Livingstone brought the lead down to 23 with five straight points before the Lions finished the period outscoring the Blue Bears 8-4 to lead 46-19 at the break.

The Lions shooting cooled off somewhat in the quarter as they connected on just 42.9% (6-14) to finish the half shooting at a 46.9% clip (15-32).  The LU defense meanwhile held Livingstone under 10% from the field  (3-31).

Both teams struggled to find the basket in the third quarter with the Blue Bears outscoring the Lions 10-9 in the period, cutting Lincoln's lead to 54-29.

Livingstone opened the fourth quarter with an 11-5 bring the Lions lead under 20 for the first time since early in the second quarter, 59-40.  Spencer followed with a layup before the Blue Bears ran off six straight points to close the gap to 61-46 with 3:08 remaining.  Lincoln scored the next seven points with Pendleton getting the last five to go back up by 22, 68-46 with 1:22 left.  Searcy scored the final five points for the Blue Bears  to round out the scoring.

For the game, the Lions shot 41.7% (25-60) from the field while the Blue Bears connected on just 19.4% of their shots (14-72).  Livingstone edged the Lions on thr glass 51-50 while both teams struggled with their ball control (LU 28 turnovers, LC 26) leading 24 points off turnovers scored by each team.  The Lions dominated in the paint 32-10.

The Lions are now off for Christmas break and will return to action on January 4, 2018 when they host Fayetteville State University.
