Diana Martinez (Kissimmee, Fla./St. Cloud) broke a school record as the Lincoln University women's indoor track and field team opened the 2017 portion of their season over the weekend, competing in the Towson Tiger Invitational on Saturday at the Armory in New York City.

Martinez broke her own school record in the shot put with a throw of 11.91 meters (39' 1"). The freshman thrower eclipsed her own mark of 37'7.25" set back in December at the Bow-Tie Classic at Ursinus College. Martinez finished in 12
th place in a field that included athletes from several Division I schools including Delaware, Towson, Navy, Howard and Temple amongst others. Amongst non-division I throwers in the event, Martinez had the fourth longest toss.

Freshman
Sydney Anderson (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) cleared a season best height in the high jump at 1.45 meters (4'9"), finishing in 16
th place and also competed in the 60-meter dash for the first time as did
Tema Kidd (Philadelphia, Pa./Germantown). Kidd and Anderson had times of 8.53 and 8.79 seconds respectively in the race.

Lincoln's only other top 20 finishes at the meet came in the high jump and the 500 meter run. In the high jump competition,
Aasante Love (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area) placed 17
th overall, while also clearing 1.45 meters (4'9"). Joelle Park placed 18
th in the 500-meter run, making her debut at this event and recording a time of 1:25.23
In the other field events,
Tamara Jones (Chicago, Ill./Brooks College Prep) was the Lions top finisher in the long jump, leaping 4.86 meters (15' 11.5").
Sprint-wise, Kidd was Lincoln's top finisher at 200 meters (28.63 seconds) while
Adia Berkel (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine) ran 1:03.57 for 400 meters. In the middle-distance events,
Genae Butler (Baltimore, Md./Western HS) was the Lions' top finisher at 800 meters (2:41.62) and Ariana Polk was the top finisher in the mile run with a time of 6:00.79.

Lincoln returns to action on January 21, 2017 at the Collegeville Classic hosted by Ursinus College.
