Michael Brown (Norristown, Pa,/Norristown HS) ran to first place finishes in both the 60-meter and 200-meter dash events as the Lincoln University men's track and field team opened their season last Saturday at the Bow-Tie Classic at Ursinus College. In the process of winning these two events, Brown's times also qualified him for the ECAC/IC4A Indoor Championships to be held in Boston, Massachusetts on March 4-5, 2017.
Brown ran the 60-meter dash in 6.97 seconds, surpassing the ECAC/IC4A qualifying standard of 6.98 seconds, becoming the first Lincoln men's runner in the school's NCAA era to qualify in the 60-meter event. He was one of two Division II athletes to meet the qualifying standard in the first week of the 2016-17 season.
In the 200-meter dash, Brown eclipsed the qualifying standard of 22.24, running a converted time of 22.12. He is Lincoln's first 200-meter ECAC/IC4A qualifier since Miles Green in 2014-15 and the first Division II athlete to qualify this year.
NCAA Division I, II and III athletes will compete together at the ECAC/IC4A Indoor Championships although the majority of competitors are from Division I institutions.
A former High School All-American track and field athlete at Norristown high School, Brown is in his fourth and final season of indoor competition as a member of the Lincoln University track and field team.
