The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) along with the Football Coaches Association and Sports Information Directors Association released the 2016 CIAA All-conference and All-Rookie Football Teams on Tuesday afternoon. Lincoln University sophomore safety
Deion Miller (Sayreville,NJ/Sayreville War Memorial High School) and sophomore defensive lineman
Solomon Bassett (Saginaw,TX/Boswell High School) were named to the CIAA Football All-Conference Team. Miller was a second team honoree while Bassett was an honorable mention selection. In addition freshman quarterback
Jason Epps (Bowie, MD/Bowie High School) was named to the CIAA Offensive All-Rookie Team.
Nominations for the All-Conference Team were done by the league's 12 head coaches and voted on by the coaches and the league's sports information directors. The CIAA all-Rookie Teams were nominated by the sports information directors and voted on by the coaches and SID's.
Miller currently leads the CIAA in solo tackles with 58 and is ranked fourth in total tackles with 82 and fifth in tackles per game averaging 8.2. The sophomore safety has recorded ten or more tackles in a game three times with a career high 11 solo tackles and 14 total against Elizabeth City State University on October 15. Miller recorded 13 tackles against Division I FCS opponent Morehead State on September 17.
Bassett finished the season with 48 total tackles, fourth best on the team. He recorded 2.5 sacks and has three fumble recoveries, both top marks for the Lions. His three fumble recoveries are the third best mark in the CIAA. He recorded a career high nine tackles against Winston-Salem State on October 1.
Epps had a solid freshman campaign leading the Lions offense. He completed 42.4% of his passes (81-191), ranking ninth in the CIAA. His 81 completions are tenth best amongst CIAA quarterbacks and his 138.3 yards/per game is seventh in the CIAA, as is his 1245 yards passing. Epps threw for 100 or more yards in each of the Lions final seven games, notching a career high 338 yards against St. Augustine's on September 24 and 246 yards against Bowie State on October 29. Against St. Augustine's he connected on 22 of 33 passes for a 66.7% completion rate.
