Lions open round-up with loss against Golden Bulls

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. –
The Lincoln University men's tennis team opened the brand new tennis complex on Friday afternoon with a 9-0 loss during the opening day of the 2013 CIAA Northern Division Cluster Round-up.
 
The No. 1 doubles team of Austin Kische (Yreka, Calif./Yreka HS) and Nathaniel Sangster (Port of Spain, Trinidad/Sacred Heart College) dropped a tough, 8-4, decision to Darrell Sawyer and Dion Chever. Lincoln (0-2 overall, 0-2 CIAA) headed into singles play trailing 3-0.
 
Kische nearly gave Lincoln a win at No. 1 singles as he took Sawyer to the limit. In the first set, Kische lost, 6-4, but rebounded with a second-set, 7-6, thrilling win. In the tiebreaker, Sawyer got the win, 8-6.
 
Johnson C. Smith (1-13, 1-2) picked up wins in the five other singles matches to get the victory.
 
Lincoln returns to action during the second day of the round-up on Saturday with matches against Winston-Salem State at 9 a.m., and Johnson C. Smith at 4 p.m.
