Bowling sets program record with 17th win

BOWIE, Md. — Lincoln University bowling had a remarkable day as the program set a program record with wins in a season and two bowlers surpassed 200.

With victories over Saint Paul's College and Virginia State, LU improved its record to 17-49. Last year, Lincoln's 15-win effort set the standard for wins a year.

Tahirah Stewart (Brooklyn, NY/South Shore) bowled a 216 versus Saint Paul's College, the third highest total in school history. She owns the three marks, but this was a season high for the Lady Lions.

“The team is improving by a lot every year because we have some new girls and the old teammates who are also improving,” Stewart said. “We have a really good team this year, and we're all going to get better.”

In that match, Lincoln defeated Saint Paul's, 801-728, for LU's first 800-pin game of the year.

Lincoln also defeated Virginia State, 773-782, the first time LU has defeated VSU in the history of the third-year program. This match was a make-up from the snowed out tournament at Saint Paul's College in early February.

Stacy-Ann Smart bowled a 210 to establish her own career high versus Virginia Union.

“It's great. I'm just concentrating,” Smart said. “At the end of every mark, I need another mark. I kept my adrenaline going.”

Action continues Saturday and Sunday in Bowie, Md.
