WILMINGTON, Del. (September 13, 2008) – Battling through a muddy, slippery and hilly course, Lincoln University of Pennsylvania sophomore Vincent “Blizzard” Thomas and junior Alisha McKeithian were the highest finishers for the men’s and women’s, respectively, cross-country teams Saturday afternoon at the Carousel. (RESULTS COMING LATER)
Thomas led a group of eight runners across the finish line in Lincoln’s season-opening meet by finishing 34th overall in a time of 32 minutes, 9.60 seconds. McKeithan crossed the finish line in 39th place in a time of 24:49.44.
“This will probably be the hardest course we’ll see all year,” Thomas said.
“Personally, I felt that I ran a bad race especially from how I finished last year. Plus I didn’t go into the race with as much confidence as I had last year. We can only build from today. I was happy that the whole team finished no matter what place they came in and that the women held their own.”
The other finishers for the men were sophomore Tarem Cannonier (47th, 33:16.53), sophomore Diedre McLoud (71st, 35:17.73), freshman Lenil Russell (72nd, 35:20.57), junior Todd Mason (92nd, 38:33.40), sophomore Alex Wright (96th, 40:20.97), Nuradyin King (102nd, 43:05.54) and freshman Kerrington Moxley (109th, 47:16.58).
Sophomore Kristina Rembert was 44th on the women’s side in a time of 25:10.68. The Lincoln cross-country team will travel to Virginia State University next Saturday morning.
“We’re excited to be heading to Virginia State because usually we don’t travel outside of Pennsylvania or Delaware for cross-country meets,” Thomas said. “We’re looking forward to competing and running on an unfamiliar course.”
