Lincoln finishes 2008 with school record for goals despite season-ending setback to PSU-Harrisburg

HARRISBURG, PA. (October 21, 2008) – Lincoln University of Pennsylvania sophomore Shaynita Blanchard (Portmore, Jamaica/Archbishop Carroll) scored her 10th goal of the year during a 3-1 season-ending defeat to Penn State-Harrisburg Tuesday afternoon. (BOXSCORE)

Lincoln finished its 2008 season with a 4-11-2 record. PSU-Harrisburg improved to 5-8 with the victory.

Blanchard became the second Lincoln women's soccer player to finish the season with double-digit goals, joining freshman Stephanie Anderson (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area HS), who ended the year with a team-best 14 goals. Blanchard has 17 career goals entering her junior season.

Blanchard helped Lincoln establish a school record for goals in a season with 33. The previous best was 25, which was set last year. Blanchard was one of four women's soccer players to finish with double digit points: Anderson (28 points), Blanchard (22), junior Antonia Jones (Philadelphia, PA/Northeast) (12) and senior Tia Redden (New Castle, DE/St. Elizabeth's) (10).

Redden, who had a team-high three shots against PSU-Harrisburg, finished her sterling career with 18 goals, the most in program history. Of course, that record is under assault by Blanchard and Anderson. Overall, at least seven Lincoln players finished with at least one point during a memorable 2008 season.

Freshman keeper Brittany Johnson (Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) made 14 saves.

Blanchard's goal in the 30th minute tied the game, 1-1. PSU-Harrisburg's Allie Rank scored the game-winner 13 minutes later.
